Oh Grandma, Why Do We Give Charity? Hassan and the Ten Secrets of Charity
Childhood cannot be happy without instilling the correct belief. The fundamental principles of Islamic creed are: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment, and in predestination, both its good and bad aspects. Branching from these six principles is everything that must be believed regarding the unseen, and all that Allah and His Messenger have informed us about. Belief in Allah entails believing in everything He has made obligatory upon His servants and ordained for them, foremost among them being the five pillars of Islam: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His messenger, establishing prayer, paying zakat, fasting Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the Sacred House for those who are able. Additionally, there are other obligations mandated by the pure Sharia. Instilling the correct creed in the hearts of children must occur in a gentle and beautiful manner, tailored to the mental and intellectual capabilities of the child, while considering their psychological and emotional state. It should appeal to their minds and hearts, combining between the legal principles and practical ideas. We will only succeed in instilling the correct Islamic creed when we use the Islamic approach in doing so, starting with the Book of Allah and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet.
As a step on this path, we present this educational series, filled with practical ideas and meaningful stories, all stemming from the Islamic creed. In this story ("Oh Grandma, Why Do We Give Charity?"), children will learn with Hassan about the ten secrets of charity: when charity brings two rewards, when one dirham precedes a hundred thousand dirhams, how charity leads to the shade of the Throne of the Most Merciful, who will be called by the angels to enter Paradise through the door of charity, whether there are free charities, what family charity projects entail, what the greatest charity of a lifetime is, and more.
