Childhood cannot be happy without firm beliefs. The foundations of correct Islamic belief are: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and in predestination, both good and bad. From these six foundations stem all that must be believed in regarding the unseen, and all that Allah and His messenger have informed us about. From believing in Allah comes the belief in everything He has obligated upon His servants and enjoined upon them. Foremost among these are the five pillars of Islam: bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His messenger, establishing prayer, paying Zakat, fasting in Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the Kaaba for those who are able. And beyond these are the other obligatory acts prescribed by the pure Sharia. Instilling the correct belief in the hearts of young children should happen in a calm and beautiful manner, suitable for the child's mental and intellectual abilities, taking into account their psychological and emotional state, appealing to their minds and hearts, and combining between the Sharia foundations and practical ideas. We will not succeed in instilling the correct Islamic belief unless we use the method of Islam in instilling it; starting from the book of Allah Almighty and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet.
